Our Dear Friends,
We are always truly delighted whenever someone sits down to play our piano. The very essence of our project is to spread joy—through music, through sharing, through being present. To create magical moments of encounter and pause in today’s busy and hurried world.
At the same time, we kindly ask all players to follow a few basic rules, which are essential for the project to remain sustainable in the long run and to continue serving its original purpose:
No use of the piano for profit-making activities – this is the first and most important rule! We do not tolerate hats, bags, or bowls placed at the piano to collect money. This practice is incompatible with the non-commercial nature of our project, and violation of this rule will result in a ban from playing the instrument.
Please treat the piano with care – just at the main train station in Prague, we have to replace the piano several times within a single year, always due to physical damage and destruction of the instrument.
Do not open the top or front lid of the piano – the lids are locked for a reason. The piano sound is softened by a so-called moderator out of consideration for the employees of the nearby businesses. Breaking the locks and removing the lids just to make the piano sound louder is unfair both to us and to the whole neighborhood.
Let others play as well – the instrument is for everyone who feels like sitting down to play and bringing joy to themselves and those around them. If, however, you occupy the piano for hours without letting others have a turn, it ceases to be a public piano and the meaning of our project is lost.
We firmly believe you understand the purpose of the above rules. Their sole aim is to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project in harmony with the ideas on which it was founded.
